Pulse Points - Local News For You
Burleson Library Just Got Top Marks. Again. 28 years of state accreditation and counting!
The Burleson Public Library just earned another big win for the community, receiving official accreditation from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for fiscal year 2026.
This recognition keeps Burleson among the top-tier libraries across Texas and highlights its ongoing commitment to quality service, strong collections, and programs that enrich local life.
What Accreditation Means
Getting accredited isn’t easy. Libraries must meet statewide standards for services, staffing, collections, and budgets. But that effort pays off: accreditation unlocks access to statewide programs like TexShare cards and databases, interlibrary loan services, and Collaborative Summer Library Program materials, all of which benefit local readers and families.
It also opens the door to state grant funding, helping the library continue to grow and innovate.
Investing in the Community
Burleson Public Library has made the most of its opportunities, earning multiple competitive grants in recent years:
2024: Library Cooperative Grant — $75,000 (MetroShare Libraries)
2023: Library Cooperative Grant — $74,000 (MetroShare Libraries)
2022: Library Cooperative Grant — $75,000 (MetroShare Libraries)
2022: Community Advancement Package Grant — $7,535
2020: TexTreasures Grant — $25,000
Each award has helped expand technology, programs, and resources for the Burleson community.
Why It Matters
Accreditation isn’t just about checking boxes. It’s a sign that Burleson’s library is keeping pace with community needs and statewide excellence. From family story times and digital resources to community partnerships and summer programs, this recognition ensures the library can continue offering more to everyone who calls Burleson home.
In short: it’s proof that Burleson’s library isn’t just a place for books. It’s a growing hub for connection, learning, and local pride.

Crowley’s Flying Squirrel Coffee: Cozy Brew Haven

On National Coffee Day, let’s celebrate one of Crowley’s local gems: Flying Squirrel Coffee Company, proudly serving up specialty drinks, community vibes, and more right on 216 E. Main St. in downtown Crowley.
A Bit of Their Story
Flying Squirrel was born in 2019 with a simple mission: bring people together over great coffee. First in Mansfield, then into Crowley.
Its name is a sweet mix of family legacy and quirky identity: the “squirrel” nods to the founder’s personality (and energy), while “flying” honors her father, a longtime pilot.
What You’ll Find at Crowley’s Location
Specialty coffees, teas, smoothies, and rotating seasonal drinks.
Light eats and baked goods (muffins, cookies, loaves) to pair with your cup.
Their own bagged coffee blends (origin roasts like Costa Rica, Brazil, Guatemala, etc.).
Options for pickup, curbside, delivery, or even a coffee trailer for events.
Hours in Crowley are: Mon–Fri 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sat 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sun 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
More Than Just Coffee
Flying Squirrel is more than a place to grab a latte. It’s a place where people can belong. Relationships are part of their heart: baristas call regulars by name, new visitors are welcomed, and the overall vibe is cozy, local, and warm.
Inside, you’ll find touches of personality: airplane parts, squirrel motifs, rotating décor, and a spirit of connection between coffee and community.
They also host local community events, for example, Worship Night gatherings in their Crowley cafe space.
Why It Matters for Crowley
Local business energy: Flying Squirrel adds to the vibrant fabric of Crowley’s downtown with a welcoming spot for residents and visitors alike.
Gathering place: It helps convert a quick coffee run into an opportunity for connection and community.
Supporting independent and character-filled shops: With each cup, patrons help sustain small-business flavor and local entrepreneurial spirit.
In short: on National Coffee Day and every day after, Crowley residents have a quality brew right in their own backyard, with personality, warmth, and community baked in.
