Neighbors, Lights, and Local Pride: National Night Out Returns TONIGHT

Across South 817, porches will glow a little brighter Tuesday night as families, police officers, and community groups come together for National Night Out, the annual evening dedicated to building safer, stronger neighborhoods.
Part block party, part community connection, National Night Out invites residents to turn on their porch lights, step outside, and spend time with the people who share their streets. Local police and fire departments join in Crowley, Burleson, and beyond, bringing squad cars, emergency vehicles, and friendly faces to neighborhood gatherings big and small.
The night is designed to do more than hand out hot dogs and high-fives. It’s about creating trust: helping neighbors look out for one another and showing that safety and friendship go hand in hand. Whether it’s meeting your local officers for the first time or just saying hello to the folks next door, National Night Out turns small moments into stronger communities.
Here’s what’s happening around South 817:
Crowley – 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. @ 201 Main Street
Burleson – 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., events around town
Alvarado – 5 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. @ 111 Reunion Dr.
So grab a lawn chair, flip on your porch light, and come meet the neighbors who make South 817 such a great place to call home.

Finding Your Way Just Got Easier at Texas Health Huguley

Visiting a hospital can be stressful enough. Finding your way around shouldn’t be. That’s why Texas Health Huguley Hospital has launched a new interactive hospital map designed to make every visit smoother, simpler, and more welcoming.
Whether you’re planning your trip ahead of time or already walking the halls, the new map helps patients and visitors navigate the hospital with confidence — from parking and entrances to key departments, clinics, and amenities. It’s easy to access from your phone or computer, giving guests clear directions right when they need them most.
What to Expect
The interactive map is designed to make the hospital experience more comfortable and convenient by offering:
Step-by-step navigation for patients and visitors
Clear visuals for major departments, entrances, and parking areas
Mobile-friendly access for use on the go
Seamless integration with hospital information and visitor resources
The map joins a growing list of digital tools Texas Health Huguley is rolling out to improve patient experience and accessibility — all part of the hospital’s ongoing mission to combine compassionate care with modern convenience.
Why It Matters
For patients and families, even small improvements can make a big difference. Hospital visits often come during moments of uncertainty or stress — and easy navigation means one less thing to worry about.
By helping people feel comfortable and confident the moment they arrive, Texas Health Huguley continues to show that high-quality healthcare starts long before anyone steps into an exam room.
A Commitment to Care
Texas Health Huguley’s staff remains dedicated to supporting patients every step of the way, both online and in person. Whether it’s using the map to plan your visit or asking for guidance in the lobby, there’s always someone ready to help.

STEM on Wheels Rolls Into Crowley ISD

Science on the Go: Crowley Students Get Hands-On With STEM
Science just got a whole lot cooler in Crowley recently. A traveling STEM trailer pulled up to Oakmont Elementary, giving students a hands-on chance to build, create, and explore, turning the parking lot into a mini science lab on wheels.
Key Details:
Inside the trailer, kids used popsicle sticks, tape, and pipe cleaners to design “artificial pollinators,” learning how bees keep our ecosystems buzzing.
The visit is part of Crowley ISD’s push to bring STEM to life, encouraging problem-solving and teamwork through hands-on learning.
STEM Coordinator Lauren Kelly made it happen after applying multiple times to land a trailer visit.
The district also scored a $3,000 Society for Science grant to fund student research and competitions.
Crowley ISD’s new STEM Academy is set to help young innovators turn their big ideas into real-world projects.
Why it matters:
Brings science out of the classroom and into kids’ hands.
Builds excitement for STEM careers early on.
Shows Crowley ISD’s commitment to giving every student a shot at discovery.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Your Harvest House in Burleson

Harvesting Hope in Burleson: How One Nonprofit Feeds, Clothes, and Restores Neighbors in Need
When challenges hit home, Your Harvest House stands at the ready. For decades, this Burleson nonprofit has offered more than relief — it offers dignity, connection, and a path toward stability for neighbors in need.
What It Is, What It Does
Located at 349 NW Renfro St., Burleson, Your Harvest House exists to “Feed · Clothe · Restore”, a simple but powerful mission.
The organization provides:
Food access via the pantry — clients can receive groceries monthly (with extra help during summer for families with children).
Clothing vouchers and resale store support, allowing clients to “shop” for needed clothing and household items.
Financial assistance for utility bills, medical prescriptions, and other urgent needs, where eligibility allows.
Spiritual encouragement, education, and care, grounded in Biblical principles.
They also partner with local agencies to connect clients with employment help, counseling, and longer-term support. In 2024 alone, they distributed 459,803 pounds of food, offered $123,568 in financial aid, served 2,769 clothing visits, and helped 9,009 individual clients.
Why It Matters
In a region where many families live paycheck to paycheck, Your Harvest House functions as a safety net — catching those moments before a setback turns into a crisis. By offering not just aid but options (choice in the pantry, clothing vouchers, coaching referrals), they preserve dignity — a critical but often overlooked part of help.
When food costs, utility bills, or medical needs overwhelm a budget, many turn inward. Your Harvest House turns outward — showing that community matters, people matter, and no one has to face tough times alone.
Community & Support
Your Harvest House runs on community generosity. Donations of food staples like canned goods, boxed meals, soups, and broths are always needed.
Volunteers keep the doors open: sorting, stocking, serving clients, and managing the resale store. Their team includes staff, board members, and many neighbors who help shape mission and operations.
