Tallgrass: A $1 Billion Vision for Burleson’s Western Gateway
Big news for Burleson’s future, the city has teamed up with Groundwork Development Partners to launch Tallgrass, a $1 billion master-planned community that will reshape the city’s western gateway at Chisholm Trail Parkway and FM 1902. The 621-acre development will include homes, parks, shops, trails, schools, and more, creating a true live, work, play destination.

Residential Neighborhood with the Tallgrass Greenbelt
Key Details:
4,000 new homes and 1 million square feet of commercial space are planned.
The design reflects the motto “Where Roots Run Deep”, blending Burleson’s heritage with its growth.
The community will feature five miles of trails, 90 acres of parks and open space, and a signature town center.
Plans also include a future elementary school and mixed-use areas for shopping, dining, and jobs.
Tallgrass will be built alongside major transportation upgrades, including the four-lane expansion of Chisholm Trail Parkway and FM 1902.
What they’re saying:
“This is the kind of development that shapes a community for generations to come,” said Alex Philips, Burleson’s economic development director.
Steven Spears, principal at Groundwork, called Tallgrass “a legacy effort that interconnects social, environmental, educational, and economic values.”

Burleson just announced its biggest project yet: Tallgrass, a billion-dollar master-planned community built around connection, nature, and growth.
Why it matters:
Marks one of Burleson’s largest-ever developments.
Expands housing, retail, and career opportunities.
Prioritizes sustainability and community connection.
Creates a vibrant western gateway that reflects Burleson’s growth while honoring its roots.

Chipotle Set to Spice Things Up in Crowley

The signs (and the job postings) say it’s close, Chipotle’s first Crowley location is almost ready to serve.
Crowley is about to get another dining option. Chipotle Mexican Grill is opening soon at 900 South Crowley Road, right next to Wingstop. The exact opening date hasn’t been announced yet, but job postings are up and things are heating up fast.
Key Details:
The restaurant will sit at 900 S. Crowley Rd., next to Wingstop, making it an easy lunch, dinner, or online pickup spot for locals.
Expect all the classics, including burritos, bowls, tacos, salads, and that signature fresh guac.
Job listings posted this week suggest opening preparations are underway, signaling that doors could open very soon.
The location is expected to feature Chipotle’s signature pickup shelves and a drive-thru for digital orders.
This will be Crowley’s first location, ending the drive to Burleson or Fort Worth for all the Chipot-lovers.
Why it matters:
Another win for Crowley’s growing dining scene, which continues to attract national brands.
Brings fresh, fast-casual options closer to home for residents and commuters.
A sure sign that South Crowley Road is booming with new businesses and energy.
The Bottom Line:
No official opening date yet, but with job listings live and construction wrapping up, the wait won’t be long. Keep your eyes peeled, because burritos are about to roll into Crowley.

Saluting Service: Marine Corps League Longhorn Detachment 1069 Serves Crowley & Beyond

Once a Marine, Always a Neighbor: MCL Longhorn Detachment Serves Crowley with Pride
If you’ve driven by 1401 W Cleburne Rd, Crowley, you may have seen the Marine flag, or heard about community events. That’s home to MCL Longhorn Detachment 1069, the local chapter of the Marine Corps League, and a group that blends service, veteran support, and community outreach under one patriotic banner.
What Is MCL Longhorn?
MCL Longhorn is part of the Marine Corps League, a national veterans’ service organization founded in 1923 and officially chartered by Congress in 1937 to support Marines, Veterans, and their families.
Locally, Detachment 1069 (the “Longhorn” chapter, established in 2001) operates with a mission to:
Preserve the traditions and history of the U.S. Marine Corps
Aid Marines, former Marines, their widows, and orphans
Promote patriotism, fellowship, and community service in Crowley and the surrounding region
The name “Longhorn” was inspired by the chapter’s early meeting grounds near the historic Chisholm Trail, symbolic of Texas heritage and closeness to Fort Worth.
They also maintain the Col. Don D. Ezell Memorial Library, housing over 450 military and Marine-themed books donated by family members, available to members and visitors alike.
Community Impact & Outreach
MCL Longhorn is more than parades and ceremonies. Their community work touches hearts and hands:
Wheelchairs 4 Kids Golf Tournament —raising funds and awareness to deliver mobility to local children in need.
Jarhead Jam/School Supply Drive — collecting and distributing backpacks, school supplies, and essentials to kids in the region.
Toys for Tots — classic Marine Corps outreach during the holidays.
Scouting America #554 — supporting local youth through scouting activities under their sponsorship.
They also honor veterans and fallen Marines via remembrance observances, Marine Corps birthday events, and community ceremonies.
Why It Matters for Crowley & the South 817
Support for veterans and families: Local veterans often face challenges, including medical, financial, social. MCL Longhorn helps bridge gaps with advocacy and aid.
Anchoring patriotism and local pride: The presence of a Marine Corps League chapter reminds residents of service, sacrifice, and community values.
Youth & future leaders: Through partnerships like Scouting and school drives, they invest in the next generation.
Bridging military and civilian communities: By hosting public events, drives, and memorials, they invite every resident to recognize, honor, and support those who served.
