Burleson Becomes Launchpad for Zipline Drones

From Walmart to Your Yard…by Drone
The age of futuristic logistics has landed in the South 817 region. Residents of Burleson, Texas now have access to an autonomous drone-delivery service operated by Zipline in partnership with Walmart Inc., following the company’s rollout at the store located at 951 SW Wilshire Blvd.
What’s the deal?
Beginning October 22, 2025, eligible customers in the designated delivery zones around the Burleson Walmart can place orders via the Zipline app and receive items delivered by drone. The drones carry packages of up to 5.5 lbs (with plans to expand to 8 lbs) and require only about a six-foot clear drop-zone on the customer’s property.
Rather than landing, the aircraft hovers around 300 feet above ground while a small “Zip” pod descends on a tether to deliver the order.
Why it matters
For shoppers in the Burleson area, this marks a significant shift in convenience. Small-item groceries, household essentials and more can be delivered quickly, without a truck, right to your yard or preferred open space. For the retailer and logistics ecosystem, it underscores how suburbs are becoming test-beds for drone-based “last mile” innovations.
Things to know
Delivery hours run 10 a.m.–8 p.m on weekdays, and 8 a.m.–8 p.m on weekends.
Drones comply with all Federal Aviation Administration regulations and fly above private property in permitted airspace.
The service is initially limited in availability; residents should download the Zipline app to join the wait‐list or check eligibility.
The company emphasizes that the system is quiet and built for community use in residential settings.
A Look Ahead
While the current focus is on small-package delivery, this rollout represents one step in a broader transition toward autonomous delivery models. As the network expands and payload/zone restrictions ease, drone delivery could become a seamless part of everyday life in places like Burleson.
In short: if you live in the zip-codes near the Wilshire Blvd Walmart, you now have the chance to skip the shopping trip, or at least skip the drive.

Joshua City Council Special Election Scheduled Following Councilmember’s Passing

Following the passing of Councilmember Johnny Waldrip, Joshua voters will head to the polls December 13 to fill the open seat.
The city of Joshua is moving forward with a special election on Saturday, December 13, 2025, to fill the unexpired term for City Council Place 1. This election comes in the wake of the sad passing of Councilmember Johnny Waldrip, whose death was acknowledged by the city on October 9.
Early voting for the special election begins December 1. The deadline to file for a place on the ballot was November 3, with residency and age requirements in line with the city charter.
City Hall, located at 101 South Main Street, will serve as one of the polling sites.
City leadership emphasized the importance of this election in maintaining stable governance and ensuring that citizens of Joshua have full representation on the Council. As the city honors its late councilmember, the upcoming vote provides an opportunity for residents to shape who will fill the seat and contribute to future decisions that affect the community.
For Joshua residents and city watchers alike, the December election underscores how local leadership transitions can move quickly, and how critical it is for registered voters to be engaged, informed, and ready to participate.

Safe Prescription-Drug Disposal Day in Crowley

Crowley Joins National Drug Take-Back Effort
Residents of Crowley, Texas have a clear opportunity this weekend to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications. The Crowley Police Department is hosting a free drop-off event on Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the police station, located at 671 Bus. FM 1187 W.
This initiative, part of the national effort led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) called National Drug Take-Back Day, invites community members to bring surplus prescription drugs and drop them off without any questions asked. It’s a practical way to help prevent misuse, accidental ingestion, or harmful disposal in household trash or down the drain.
Why it matters: Studies show that many misuse cases begin with accessible medications at home. By taking this easy step, Crowley residents support public health, reduce risk for teens and seniors, and aid in keeping the local community safer.
Here’s what to know:
Bring your prescription medications (no questions asked, no ID required).
The drop-off window is 10 a.m.–2 p.m., Saturday, October 25.
The location: 671 Bus. FM 1187 W., Crowley.
The event is hosted by the Crowley Police Department in partnership with the national DEA program.
Make a simple choice that has lasting effects. Clear out your medicine cabinet, and help keep our community safer.
